I'm pleased to announce the release of VC5, beta 3.
CHANGES FROM BETA 2
This release adds the GUI and fixes a few bugs discovered in Beta 2. Other than the GUI, there are no major feature additions or changes.
Other features in VC5 are detailed in the VC5 release notes or in previous beta announcements, which can be found here:
http://www.vyatta.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1408
DOCUMENTATION
The Quick Start Guide has been updated to include information about how to use the GUI. The GUI leverages the CLI stucture and much of the other documentation of Vyatta is also applicable to the GUI. Please consult the new Quick Start Guide and then any additional Vyatta documentation for the features you want to configure.
You can find the documentation here:
http://www.vyatta.org/documentation
INSTALLING AND UPGRADING:
Beta 3 is being released as package updates only; there is no standalone ISO image. You can upgrade to this release from either an earlier VC5 beta or 4.1.4 installation. You will need to reconfigure your repository configuration to get updates from the "testing" component. Consult the newest Release Notes and the new Upgrade Guide for more information.
You can find the documentation here:
http://www.vyatta.org/documentation
REPORTING BUGS AND GETTING HELP
All bug reports, requests for help, discussion, and comments should be directed to the Users forum on vyatta.org. |

The release notes point to the Vyatta System Installation and Upgrade Guide for getting info on how to upgrade. Unfortunately such a document cannot easily be spotted at http://www.vyatta.org/documentation. So I guess the short version is:
Set your package repository to testing, apt-get update and run the upgrade:
| Quote: |
vyatta# configure
vyatta# set system package repository community distribution testing
vyatta# commit
vyatta# exit
vyatta# apt-get update
vyatta# full-upgrade -k
|
Check with vyattta# show version - it should show VC5.0.2 after the upgrade. Enable the Web-GUI with
| Quote: |
vyatta# configure
vyatta# set service https
vyatta# commit
|
Vyatta generates the HTTPS-certificate and you're all set.
If I got something wrong, please correct me! Have a good testing-weekend!

Now I m running the new version. After failing to upgrade the first time. I have downloaded the ISO version and then, after changing the repository direction, I have upgraded to the new version. Even saving my configurations.
After setting up the https service, the WEB GUI started working fine. But I only have trouble to login. I m using "root" and "vyatta" as user/pass but nothing happens. I can ssh using those data. What is wrong? What else do I need to do in order to login, using my name_pass combination. Even with vyatta-vyatta is not loggin. |

From the "Vyatta_Quickstart_VC5_v03.pdf" which you of course downloaded:
The page numbered 22(page 26 in my pdf viewer) says:
| Quote: | Any non-root user may log on to the router through the GUI. Root
login through the GUI is not supported for security reasons. |
So root/vyatta is definately a no-go.
vyatta/vyatta ought to work though. |

The vyatta/vyatta combination worked fine for me.
Actually, I've blogged a little about Vyatta's new web GUI(two blog entries): 1 and 2.
As can be seen from there the user vyatta was used.

It's certainly a handy tool.
I'm wondering if I'm missing something, or just expecting too much, but under the service/webproxy/url-filtering section I just get a blank page.
I was hoping to at least see a list of blocked categories / urls etc. and be able to modify these from the interface.
It's not a big deal, I'm quite happy doing it all from the shell, but as something I tweak on a regular basis, having that as part of the GUI would be great.
However it's the first edition of the GUI, and to be honest I'm happy to see it there are all. Good Show!
Thanks |

Glad you're liking what you're seeing
Right now, the GUI provides direct access to the CLI command set. To
have a new capability such as modifying a category from the interface,
you've got to be able to do the same through the CLI. You can, of
course, view the categories/URLs under the Operation tab with "show
webproxy blacklist" commands - just like the CLI
And, of course, Dave would remind you that you can express your
opinion on new features at
http://www.vyatta.org/contribute/enhancements-poll .
Best,
Justin |

I can do this from the CLI using the commands
| Code: | | set service webproxy url-filter squidguard block-category <category> |
and
| Code: | | delete service webproxy url-filter squidguard block-category <category> |
It's not a huge deal, and the interface is definately nice, it was just something I'd been doing a fair bit of recently, and so was one of the first things I tried to do from the GUI. |

Ah, I see what you mean. You have access to the commands, but don't
have the detailed help that will show you all the available categories
from the GUI. That's been filed as a separate GUI bug.
If you're not seeing the command options and just getting an entirely
blank page, you need to hit the "Create" button at service => webproxy
=> url-filtering => squidguard to get all the options.
Best,
Justin

I may have missed it but is there a graphs / cahrting part to gui, i.e. Endian and pfSense - have some reports in svg, png format - live traffic, utilization, uptime, etc.
Thanks |
