I'm pleased to announce that VC5 Beta 3 is available on the repository servers. The release announcement is here:
http://www.vyatta.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1572
This release contains the GUI. A few comments about that:
- GUI development at Vyatta will occur in multiple phases. This is the first phase of what will probably be a 2 or maybe even 3 phase process. VC5 delivers phase 1.
- The phase 1 GUI is very similar to the GUI in VC3. It exposes all the configuration parameters of the system in a hierarchical tree as they are structured in the CLI. This allows users to get at literally any parameter of the system through the GUI. It also allows users to execute just about any operational mode command. Thus, through the GUI, you can literally administer the product almost completely, both for configuration and monitoring and maintenance. There are still some things that should be done through the CLI, such as system upgrades, etc. While the general interaction model is similar to VC3, the code is completely different and had to be rewritten because of the extensive infrastructure changes introduced to Vyatta in VC4.
- While the phase 1 GUI is exhaustive in its support of the product, it could better present certain forms of data (notably things like firewall and NAT rules which would be easier to deal with in a tabular format). We'll be adding these features in later development phases.
- Right now, the GUI only supports Firefox and Internet Explorer version 7. We recommend Firefox for the best support; you will likely run into some issues with both uprev and downrev versions of IE. These general issues are well-known in the web development industry as Microsoft's browser incompatibilities are legendary. Google Chrome and Opera may also have issues. We'll be working to improve browser compatibility in later development phases.

First off I guess I had to be the first to say.. I like it.. simple enough to use.. with a professional look. I would have to say GOOD JOB..
I assume it is ajax and runs good enough..!!
I am excited all over again.. When it is good enough for production I can feel free that a backup can successfully add vpn users without disturbing me on vacation.... if such a thing existed... |
