How to Install

Running the Live CD After download either the community edition or the subscription edition .iso image, burn to a CD-ROM using your favorite CD burning software. All Vyatta iso's are live CDs which means that you can evaluate the system simply by booting the CD--the system runs directly from the CD. (Or you can boot in a virtual environment; VMware works well.) Later you can install it to hard disk (see below). Once you boot the CD, you can login as either vyatta or root. vyatta will take you directly into the Vyatta shell; this is the standard method of logging into the system and should be used unless you need to do something special. root will take you to the Linux shell (bash), where you can then type xorpsh to start the shell. The default password for both the accounts is vyatta. Installing to Hard Disk Once you have determined that you want to install the system more permanently, simply install to a hard disk like any other operating system. If you're going to run the software in any sort of long-term trial or production, we strong recommend installing it to disk. Executing from CD can be annoying in a production environment. For instance, you may experience pauses interacting with the CLI or web interfaces while the system spins up the CD to read some data. You can install the system to a local hard disk using the installation program. To install the system:    Login: root   Password: vyatta   # install-system Follow the prompts to install the system to a local partition on your hard drive.
